On March 17, 2026 Venus was exalted in Pisces, sharing the sign with the Sun and Saturn. In Aquarius, Mercury was retrograde (from February 26 to March 21) close to Mars and Rahu. Jupiter had stationed direct in Gemini six days earlier, on March 11. It was Krishna Chaturdashi, the day before the new moon.

The configuration in the tradition
Pisces is Venus's sign of exaltation; the texts associate an exalted Venus with comfort, refinement and harmony. Mars within a few degrees of Rahu is the combination the texts call Angaraka yoga, read as heat and impulsiveness. Those are the classical readings of the positions, nothing more.
The market that day
After a fall from above 26,000 in January to the 23,000 range by March, Nifty opened at 23,493, touched 23,656 and closed at 23,581 - a gain of 0.37%. IT (+1.8%), FMCG (+1.4%) and Auto (+0.9%) led; banking and metals were flat.
Coincidence is not cause
These events coincided in time. That is not evidence that one caused the other, and we do not claim it. A single session's 0.37% move sits well inside Nifty's ordinary daily range. We have tested planetary timing rules against years of market data - deflated Sharpe ratios, out-of-sample splits and the probability of backtest overfitting - and across 1,644 strategies on 16 assets none has been distinguished from chance.
Corrected 2 October 2026: an earlier version of this post described a Jupiter-Venus conjunction in Gemini during Holi week; there was none - Venus was in Pisces, Jupiter in Gemini - and Holi 2026 fell on March 3-4. The positions above are recomputed from the sidereal (Lahiri) ephemeris for the date.
