The sky on February 3, 2026
On February 3, 2026 Mars was exalted in Capricorn - it had entered the sign on January 16 - and three other planets shared the sign: the Sun, Mercury in its last degree, and Venus. Jupiter was retrograde in Gemini, Saturn in Pisces and the nodes on the Aquarius-Leo axis. The Moon was in Leo, in Magha.

The configuration in the tradition
Capricorn is the sign of Mars's exaltation; the texts associate an exalted Mars with discipline, effort and organised energy. Four planets in one sign is a concentration the tradition reads through that sign's lord - here Saturn, in Pisces. Mars and Venus were both within the Sun's orb, which the texts call asta (combust). Those are the classical readings, nothing more.
The market that day
Nifty 50 opened at 26,308, touched a low of 25,641 and closed at 25,727, a fall of 2.21%. Banking, metals and real estate led the decline.
Coincidence is not cause
These events coincided in time. That is not evidence that one caused the other, and we do not claim it. We have tested planetary timing rules against years of market data - deflated Sharpe ratios, out-of-sample splits and the probability of backtest overfitting - and across 1,644 strategies on 16 assets none has been distinguished from chance.
Corrected 2 October 2026: an earlier version of this post described Mars stationing direct in Cancer on this date and called that the cause of the fall; Mars was direct in Capricorn - its last retrograde ended on February 24, 2025. The positions above are recomputed from the sidereal (Lahiri) ephemeris for the date.
