Every number is illustrative and based only on what you enter.

Calculate GST

Choose whether you want to add GST on top of a base price (exclusive) or remove GST that is already included in a gross amount (inclusive), then enter your amount and rate. The figures below are illustrative and based entirely on your inputs, not a tax invoice or advice.

Add GST: your amount is the base price and GST is added on top to reach the total.

These figures are illustrative and based on your inputs only. Add mode applies GST amount = amount x rate / 100 on top of your base; remove mode treats your amount as GST-inclusive and works back to a base of amount / (1 + rate / 100). Results are not a tax invoice, a GST filing or professional tax advice, and do not account for exemptions, reverse charge, cess, rounding rules or input tax credit. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

GST, the Goods and Services Tax, is India's unified indirect tax on the supply of most goods and services, introduced on 1 July 2017. It replaced a web of older taxes such as VAT, service tax and excise with a single system charged at each stage of the supply chain, with credit for tax already paid on inputs. The final consumer effectively bears the tax. This calculator only illustrates the arithmetic of adding or removing GST at a rate you choose.
Most goods and services fall into one of four main GST rate slabs: 5 percent for many essentials and mass-use items, 12 and 18 percent for a wide range of standard goods and services (18 percent is the most common), and 28 percent for luxury or so-called sin goods, some of which also carry an extra cess. A few items are zero-rated or exempt. Rates and classifications are revised by the GST Council over time, so always confirm the current slab for your specific item.
For a supply within the same state (intra-state), the total GST is split equally into CGST, collected by the central government, and SGST or UTGST, collected by the state or union territory, so an 18 percent rate becomes 9 percent CGST plus 9 percent SGST. For a supply between two different states (inter-state), the whole amount is charged as a single IGST at the full rate. The total tax is the same either way; only how it is split and who collects it differs.
Use Add mode (exclusive) when your amount is the base price and you want the tax on top: GST amount = amount x rate / 100, and total = amount + GST. Use Remove mode (inclusive) when your amount already includes GST and you want to find the base: net = amount / (1 + rate / 100), and GST = amount minus net. This tool does both; pick the mode that matches the figure you are starting from.
