Understanding Your Dasha Wealth Timeline
What Is Vimshottari Dasha?
Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used timing system in Vedic astrology, or Jyotish. It divides a person's life into a repeating 120-year cycle, shared among the nine classical grahas: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Each planet rules one Mahadasha, a major period whose length is fixed by tradition and never changes, from Ketu's short 7-year turn to Saturn's long 19-year stretch.
What makes the system personal is the starting point. Your first Mahadasha lord is not chosen by your Sun sign or your rising sign. It is derived from the Moon's Nakshatra, the lunar constellation it occupied at the exact moment of your birth, and how far the Moon had already travelled through that Nakshatra. Two people born hours apart can begin entirely different Mahadashas. Once that starting lord is known, the sequence that follows is fixed and classical, cycling through all nine lords in the same order for the rest of the chart's life.
How Your Timeline Is Calculated
This tool builds your actual birth chart from the date, time and place of birth you enter, then locates the Moon's exact Nakshatra at that moment. That single detail is enough to calculate which Mahadasha you are currently running and precisely when it ends, which is what the free teaser above shows as your current lord and end date.
Unlocking the full timeline reveals the Antardashas inside that Mahadasha. Every Mahadasha is itself subdivided into nine Antardasha sub-periods, one for each of the nine lords, following the same proportional Vimshottari sequence as the main cycle. Each Antardasha carries its own start and end date, so you can see which planetary combination is active in any given month, not just which lord governs the wider multi-year period. On top of this, the unlocked view adds a Dasha × Transit Confluence reading, which layers today's real planetary transits over your Dasha lord's natal placement, so the timing picture reflects both where that planet sits permanently in your chart and where the sky actually is right now.
Why It Matters
Jyotish treats a birth chart as a set of fixed potentials, and treats Dasha as the clock that decides when each potential is more or less active. The same natal placement can express very differently depending on which lord is currently running it, which is why Vedic astrologers give Dasha such weight when discussing timing, rather than reading a chart as one static, unchanging picture.
For financial themes specifically, this means the planets connected to your income, assets, career and risk appetite in your natal chart tend to feel more prominent during their own Mahadasha and Antardasha, and quieter when a less-connected lord is running. Knowing which period you are in can help you understand why a phase feels expansive or restrictive, and can add useful context alongside your own financial planning and decisions. This is a framework for self-understanding, not a prediction of specific outcomes. How to Use Your Timeline
Start with the free teaser: your current Mahadasha lord and its end date tell you the broad, multi-year theme you are living through right now. Read its general classical significations in the table above as background context, not a forecast. Unlock the full breakdown to see the Antardasha you are in today, which narrows that multi-year theme down to a specific window of months, and pair it with the Dasha × Transit Confluence section to see how today's live transits interact with your Dasha lord. For the complete picture, the free Financial Birth Chart report places this same Dasha timing alongside your full Yoga list and today's trading luck, all in one place.
