Chart basics

Lagna (Ascendant)
The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment; the first house and the anchor of the whole chart. Free birth chart →
Rashi

Nakshatra
One of the 27 lunar mansions the Moon moves through; it sets your dasha starting point and finer personality traits. Nakshatra finder →
Graha
A planet in Vedic astrology. The nine grahas are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.
Bhava (House)
One of the twelve divisions of a chart, each governing areas of life such as wealth (2nd), gains (11th) or fortune (9th).
Sidereal (Lahiri) ayanamsa
The fixed-star zodiac used in Vedic astrology, and the specific Lahiri correction (about 24 degrees) AstroCapitalX uses for all calculations.
Divisional (Varga) chart
A harmonic sub-chart derived from the main chart to study a specific area of life in finer detail.
Navamsa (D9)
The ninth divisional chart, used to judge the underlying strength of planets and matters of fortune and partnership.
Hora (D2)
The second divisional chart, traditionally linked to wealth and resources.
Dashamsa (D10)
The tenth divisional chart, used to examine career and professional standing.

Dasha

Vakri (Retrograde)
A planet appearing to move backward from Earth’s view; a sensitive period traditionally watched closely.
Asta (Combust)
A planet too close to the Sun to be seen, considered weakened in its ability to give results.

Tithi
A lunar day, one of 30 in a lunar month; sets the broad quality of a day.
Yoga (panchang)
A Sun-Moon combination, one of 27, that flavours a day as supportive or challenging.
Karana
Half of a tithi; the finest of the panchang time divisions.
Choghadiya

Rahu Kalam
An inauspicious daily period traditionally avoided for new beginnings; it shifts with sunrise by city and season.
Abhijit Muhurta
A short, broadly auspicious window around solar noon, a useful fallback for most actions.
Muhurat

Wealth and yogas

Dhana Yoga

A combination linked to power, status and success, often pairing a kendra and trikona lord.
Gaja Kesari Yoga
A classical yoga formed by a favourable relationship between Jupiter and the Moon, linked to wisdom and standing.
Kalapurusha
The cosmic body whose signs map to natural significations, used to assign sectors to planets and houses.
Ratna (Gemstone)

Doshas

Sade Sati
The roughly seven-and-a-half year period when Saturn transits the signs around your natal Moon.
Mangal Dosha
A placement of Mars considered significant in matters of partnership and temperament.
Kaal Sarp
A pattern where all planets fall between Rahu and Ketu, traditionally said to intensify life themes.
